Personal Injury Compensation
How Much Personal Injury Compensation Will I Get?
If you are thinking about making a personal injury claim, you will no doubt be wondering how much compensation you will get. It can be very difficult to give an exact figure, as it depends entirely on the circumstances of your case.
“Absolutely Amazing” – 5 star
“Micheal was absolutely amazing through my time with him, constantly checking on my mental and physical state as well as keeping me updated regularly. I couldn’t recommend a better team to work with in any legal situation. Again thanks Micheal.”
What we can tell you is that you will be awarded a sum of compensation for your pain and suffering, and a sum of compensation for your financial losses.
Personal Injury Compensation Northern Ireland
To help you understand how much money you might get, it is useful to know that personal injury compensation is made up of two elements – general damages and special damages.
General damages are there to compensate you for the physical and/or psychological pain and suffering you have experienced.
You might be wondering – how do you put a price on your pain and suffering? Of course, it is not an easy thing to quantify.
Your general damages should reflect the extent of the pain and suffering you have endured. So, the more serious the injury, the greater your general damages will be. For example, if you suffer a minor eye injury, you can expect to be awarded up to £15,000. But if you are left totally blind, you could be awarded between £225,000 and £400,000.
We will assess the injuries you have experienced, and will continue to experience, before we begin negotiations for the maximum compensation for your case.
Special damages are there to compensate you for the financial losses you have incurred as a direct result of your injuries. This is intended to put you back in the financial position you would have been in, were it not for the accident and/or your injuries.
You can claim for both past and future financial losses, such as –
- Your past and future loss of earnings
- Your loss of pension
- The cost of medical care, medication and equipment
- The cost of travelling to receive medical care
- The cost of domestic help
- The cost of repairing, replacing or adapting your property/possessions
We can set out all the financial losses you have incurred, using any receipts and records you have kept as evidence. We can then calculate how much compensation you should receive, both for your past losses, and your anticipated future losses.
Personal Injury Lawyers
Your general damages and special damages will be added together to create your final compensation settlement.
Therefore, the amount of compensation you will get depends on the extent of pain and suffering you have endured, and the amount of money you have lost (and will lose in the future). This means compensation settlements vary enormously from case to case.
